10:30PM - Time for a shakeup...

All change!

I've set up a new LJ under the name [info]urbancannibal, which seems to make sense as more people will recognise that, and I can indulge myself to the full in ruthless self-promotion! I'll probably have a minor purge of my friends list, but all that will be is a few people on there whom I've never met and who haven't posted in ages, so if we've spoken either online or in real life in the last year or so, you'll stay on.

I'll write up the InFest experience when I've got time. Suffice to say for now that it was fucking awesome!

12:08AM - Fuck

InFest is in three days, and am I even close to being ready? Am I buggery.

The good news is that the many, many man hours of work on the Saturday night outfit have finally come to an end, and the fucker's ready at last.

The bad news is that I have everything else to do. Washing clothes, packing, hair dying, getting stuff ready to play on Friday and Sunday, making a list so I don't forget everything...etc.

I'm really not much good at this here organisation stuff...

11:26AM - Bloody students!

Finally got the phone call I've been waiting for from Leeds Uni yesterday. I've been offered a place studying Inter-disciplinary Science, so as from next month I am officially going to be a lazy sponging student! Yay!

On the flip side, it does mean that my rampant spending on CDs / eBay / clothes / boots / food etc is going to have to be reined in somewhat. Bugger. It also means that I will have to manfully resist the call of the CD stalls at Infest. But what the hell, at least now I have some prospect of a future that doesn't involve being a call monkey forever!

Huge hugs to [info]sara_pebbles for being my inspiration, as well as helping me to actually get off my arse and fill in the forms!

5:25PM - I normally dive out of the way when I see a bandwagon approaching...

...but this one is fairly interesting. And given how lamentable my memory is, it'll probably help fill in some blanks.

4:22PM - Damn it's so hot.........

I can't be arsed to do anything. Apart from this morning when I woke up with [info]sara_pebbles draped over me and was forced, nay, compelled to do rude things. We even drank cold beer afterwards. Heh. Best way to spend a Sunday that I can think of!

Friday Flock was, as you'll probably have ready elsewhere by now, the best one yet. The Phono was packed by 10.30, but still the people kept arriving, and [info]viciouscabaret and I did our best to keep them entertained. I think we succeeded. I have the setlist somewhere here, and I'm very tempted to post it when I can muster the energy to type it up.

In other news, I gave my InFest Saturday-night outfit a trial run earlier today, and quickly realised that is the temperature there is anything like it is now, I will boil alive in it, inside about twenty minutes. But at least I'll go looking good! :-)

I defy any one of you to tell me that Ravel's "Bolero" is not the most erotic piece of music ever written. When Torvill and Dean mesmerised the world and won their Olympic gold, their choice of music was inspired. They couldn't lose. It certainly wouldn't have worked if they'd used "Closer" instead...

I need a copy of this Manhunt game that turns good kids into hammer-wielding psychos, just like magic. Just think, if that kid hadn't managed to get a copy, he'd probably be half way through composing his first piano concerto by now. And I feel the need to go and murder someone...all I need is a good defense when they catch me. A violent computer game should do the trick nicely!

10:34PM - I live in Siberia, through no fault of my own

Infest outfits for Friday and Saturday are nearly ready. I still need some fishing line, a soldering iron and some wire, a few LEDs, needle and thread, black paint, some velcro and assorted other bits and pieces. And gaffa tape...lots of gaffa tape. Sunday will have to be something easy and comfortable, since I'm going to be up all bloody night playing at the afterparty.

In other news, Dead Stars tomorrow at the Bassment should be interesting. It'll be the first time in ages I've been to the Bassment and not done any DJing. At least the equipment has been (mostly) working properly lately. Even the comedy backfiring smoke machine actually propels smoke to where it is supposed to go, instead of enveloping the DJ in a peasouper and leaving the dancefloor haze-free.

Who's going tomorrow anyway? I want to see lovely people, and lots of them. Got that? Good.

8:33PM - Advice needed...

Does anyone have any experience of dealing with dodgy thieving postmen?

I paid for, and was sent, a parcel containing 13 CDs from an eBay seller, at a total price of just over ?50. The seller sent them on 29th June by recorded delivery and they are showing on the Royal Mail database as having been delivered on the 30th. When I went this morning to the sorting office to find out why they are not in my huge teetering CD pile, I was told they were delivered AND SIGNED FOR on the 30th. On checking the signature in their records, it is not mine or Nik's. The postman who delivered that morning went off sick almost immediately after delivering to our block, in the middle of his round, and had to be replaced that morning. He is still off sick. (All this is according to the manager of the sorting office).

He hasn't delivered it to a neighbour, because we hardly ever see our neighbours, apart from one guy two doors along who would have brought the CDs along if they'd been delivered to him by mistake. And in any case they were clearly marked with the right address because there were two packages delivered from the same seller, and the other one was addressed just fine.

The only conclusion to be reached is that the thieving pikey scumbag has nicked them and forged a signature. The signature is for one M Wharton, and I live in Wharton Terrace, so if that isn't a made-up name I'll be very surprised. A package containing lots of CDs is pretty unmistakeable - it would have felt and sounded like a package containing lots of CDs.

The standard Royal Mail procedure for "lost" mail is for the sender to claim (which he may not even want to do - it's not like I even know the guy), which can in any case take weeks to resolve, and will only get me a maximum compensation payout of ?28 - roughly half what I paid. Apparently, if this vermin insists he delivered it to my address, it'll be my word against his.

I am fucking livid, and at the moment tempted to cut to the quick and inflict damage on the twat when I find him. Can anyone think of any better solutions than that? Compensation for my loss would be okay, but I want my CDs more.

11:40PM - Update type behaviour

It's not going to be a long one though, because "wot I did at the weekend" posts are dull.

Actually this is two weekends because it's been that long since I've updated.

Bluesilver was a great night out...a wonderful laid-back party atmosphere and great fun musically. Huge thanks to [info]daxie for inviting me to guest DJ there. I also succeeded in taking it easy and grabbing some sleep ready for the Sisters Of Murphy gig the following night, which also went well, not least because of the band themselves, who played a stormer. On Monday I ventured out to the uncharted wilderness that is Huddersfield, to celebrate [info]viciouscabaret's birthday and enjoy some stompy industrial sounds at Control Frequency, courtesy of the lovely [info]asw909...and very good it was too. (Thanks again for Orbital!)

This weekend just gone was no less entertaining. Friday Flock went splendidly ([info]viciouscabaret has posted a better write-up than mine about it), and we managed to pack the Phono despite the presence of Batfink just down the M1. It is quite annoying that they clash, but it can't be helped. There's obviously room for both nights. Implant is not such a worry as their musical remit is a lot different to ours.

On Saturday night I got to meet [info]sara_pebbles's parental units. Nerve-wracking in the extreme, and an experience I haven't undergone since I first met my ex-wife's parents (some 18 years ago...ha!). But I needn't have worried - they were very nice people, and we all went out and ate yummy food at a French restaurant in Leeds. All in all a successful night.

Three more days of office tedium to get out of the way, then another weekend and another DJ set at Nightmare. It's looking like Sara won't be able to go though... :-(

I'm hardly surprised to have only scored 18% for "cudding" though, whatever that may be. I'm sure I could be a world-class cudder, if someone would be good enough to explain to me how it's done. Perhaps that 18% represents my so far untapped potential.
